2 1/4 cups purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 sticks room temperature unsalted butter, softened 3/4 cup white sugar 3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 2 large egg 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate morsel 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Turn the oven on to 375°F. Line baking pans with parchment paper.
In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt until thoroughly combined. Set this aside.
In a separate large-sized bowl, beat the butter with the white and brown sugars. Mix until very light and fluffy, for about 2-3 minutes.
Then mix in the vanilla and eggs, making sure each ingredient is fully incorporated before adding in the next.
Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the butter, sugar, and wet ingredients until just blended. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
Drop slightly heaping tablespoonfuls of the dough, spaced 2 inches apart, onto your prepared baking pans.
Cook 8 to 10 minutes, turning the pan halfway through. The edges should be lightly golden brown when done.
Allow fresh baked cookies to cool on the baking pan for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to finish cooling.
